ANPAS founder, Chevalier Frank Robert Gatt, a highly educated
and accomplished engineer, was born in Alexandria, Egypt in
1927. Frank migrated to Australia in 1952 with his wife and
first born son, Charles.
In Melbourne, Frank worked as an engineer and as a master
craftsman until early in 1961. He later ventured and worked
hard in initiating his own enterprise. In the beginning he
used his kitchen table as a work bench, his bathroom as a
spraying booth and engineered a smelting furnace in his garage
to start his first foundry.
Successfully inventing new techniques and devices to help
him, Frank registered his business in 1962 trading as Amalgamated
Name Plates and Signs. He established his first factory, showroom
and foundry in Canterbury Road, Surrey Hills and remained
there for 11 years.
ANPAS progressed considerably while in Surrey Hills therefore,
in 1973, Frank justified the move to a bigger premises located
at 1-3 Florence Street, Burwood. There he established a bigger
foundry operating three pit furnaces of his own design.
Together, with his three
sons, Frank's business continued to grow and for fiscal purpose,
he registered at alternate periods, the following companies:
ANPAS Amalgamated Name Plates and Signs Pty
Ltd
ANPAS Memorial Plaques Pty Ltd
Austvance Enterprises Pty Ltd
Australian National Plaques Pty Ltd
F & H Gatt Nominees Pty Ltd as trustees
for the Gatt Family.
In 1978 Frank aquired an established
foundry in Hawthorn. He modified the foundry to accomodate
ANPAS plaques system and transferred the complete foundry
operation to Hawthorn while maintaining the factory premises
in Burwood.
ANPAS continued to succeed and in 1983, Frank shifted his
industry to 8 Florence Street Burwood. The 2 storey modern
factory and offices suited ANPAS operations in every detail.
After 24 years, the Burwood property no longer suited ANPAS'
needs so in Mid 2007, ANPAS moved into a new factory located at
29/21 Barry Street, Bayswater.
Today, Frank is retired and acting as consultant to the
company. Being a famous bronze sculptor, he still welcomes
special commissions. Frank has relinquished most of his responsibilities
to his son Joseph. Trained by Frank and having 25 years experience
with the company, Joseph manages and directs the company into
a prosperous future.
